18 Graduate from Tauranga Interpreter Training

18 bilinguals graduated from the Introduction to Interpreting Training conducted by the Hamilton Multicultural Services Trust (HMS Trust) for the Tauranga Regional Multicultural Council (TRMC), Tauranga. The training was conducted fortnighly Saturdays by Carlos Diaz and Jovi Abellanosa at the TRMC Office, Historic Village in Tauranga. The class was a mix of Hindi, Punjabi, Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, Japanese, French and Farsi students many of whom already experienced interpreting for their community.

The short program was attended not only by family members but also by Ewa Fenn, TRMC President, Iryna Stewart, Training Coordinator, and the Deputy Mayor of Tauranga, Dave Stewart, who congratulated the students. Ewa was proud to see the students finish and Iryna encouraged them to register with TRMC.

The training was a result of a meeting and visit facilitated last year by Sandra McKenzie of the Office of Ethnic Affairs, between the HMS Trust and TRMC.
